A cleaner cloice

Over the last few years, the government has introduced a range of new measures to help reduce climate change. One of these, the CCL exemption scheme, allows electricity suppliers to buy power from accredited sources of renewable and cleaner generation. The cleaner electricity is derived from CHP stations, which have demonstrated to the regulator that they produce less greenhouse gases than other generators.

Under this scheme, we have undertaken to buy a proportion of our electricity from these accredited greener sources. For every unit of cleaner electricity purchased under the scheme, we are provided with a Levy Exemption Certificate, which is accredited by Ofgem. There is no additional cost to you for this cleaner electricity – the cost of the Levy Exemption Certificate replaces the levy that would ordinarily be due
